6-15 Buffalos and Sunrise

I awoke early yesterday to catch the sunrise from Oxbow Turnout. Saw a mother elk with her calf on the road but not enough time to change the settings on my camera with the long lens. The evening before, as the sun died behind the rim, we saw another herd of buffalo. They seemed to like the road we shared with them. Large bulls and dominant cows seemed to be stationed in positions of defense as the group moves protecting the young and older members of the herd. Occasionally a bull would run back to the stragglers and hurry them along. They would glance at us periodically making sure there was no threat.
Morning light is magical here as it is at all spots of natural beauty. The silence, the soft wind and the nearness of something powerful and attentive is always at hand.
