Amarillo, TX - Day 5

Made 628 miles on day one to Russellville, AR. Day 2 we continued on to Bella Vista, AR for a two day visit with Tom and Sandra Ford. Tom has constructed a mansion of a home located in a wooded suburb. Spent a great time seeing them, their daughter Heather, son Christopher and Heather's children Claire and Mason. Claire and Aimee hit it off immediately. Tom and Buz visited the famous Russell's Knife Shop where Buz picked up a fine Bowie.
Special thanks to Heather for her guided tour past Sam Walton's original 5 & Dime. Extra special thanks to Sandra for her wonderful dinners which we all enjoyed. Thanks Sandra and thanks Tom. It was wonderful seeing you.

Drove yesterday from Tom's to Amarillo and will dive 300 miles today to meet up with Poochie and Connie outside of Santa Fe where we will relax for a few days and see the sights. Leaving Tom's and entering the north east corner of Oklahoma we were buffeted by heavy winds which we had to fight for several hours. News said the winds were 50-60 mph. I don't think we hit any that strong but they were moving the big black bus pretty good.
The terrain has changed abruptly. The woodlands of the east have given way to the broad, flat openness of the southern part of the Great Plains It is a much drier country marked by field, intermittent stream beds, abandoned out buildings and little else.
